Giant poster mocking Torres is removed

A giant poster poking fun at Chelsea’s Fernando Torres has been removed as part of a council crackdown on unauthorised advertising hoardings.

Bookmakers Paddy Power used a billboard directly across the road from Stamford Bridge to jokingly suggest the £50m striker take a job cooking burgers.

The caption read: “Fernando  we’ve got an onion bag you can actually find. It’s in the burger van mate. Get your hair net on.”

However, Chelsea failed to see the funny side of the cheeky poster, which has now been removed – along with the whole hoarding – by Hammersmith & Fulham Council.

“Poking fun at beleaguered Premier League footballers is not necessarily a problem as long as the advertising hoardings are legal,” said Hammersmith & Fulham Council deputy leader Cllr Greg Smith.

“But residents don’t expect hoardings to pop up everywhere willy-nilly.”

An appeal from the owner of the hoardings, J C Decaux, against the removal of the advertising site was dismissed.
