Hiddink sets new target for Chelsea

Chelsea interim boss Guus Hiddink

Guus Hiddink says a European place must be Chelsea’s aim after their 2-1 win at Norwich lifted them up to eighth in the Premier League table.

The champions are unbeaten in their 12 league matches since Hiddink took over and the Dutchman believes their resurgence can continue.

“When I came here we were close to the relegation zone and the target was to get away from that danger zone as quickly as possible,” he said.

“We have now won a few games in a row. We have to keep on winning.

“Now with the ambition of Chelsea we must set a new target and see what we can do in the direction of Europe.

“If everyone is on board and there are no big injuries, we’d like to go as high as possible towards the European spots.”

The Blues boss also confirmed that Kenedy, who scored after 39 seconds at Carrow Road – the Brazilian youngster’s first Premier League goal – was taken off in the second half because of a groin problem.

But Hiddink, whose side face Stoke at home on Saturday and Paris St-Germain in the Champions League next week, is optimistic the injury will prove to be minor.

“Kenedy was subbed because he has what is hopefully only a small injury in his groin,” he said.
