Ethan Ampadu has returned to training and could be considered for Chelsea’s Carabao Cup game against Derby County.

Ampadu, 18, recently suffered a knee injury while playing for Wales.

He impressed when given a chance in the Blues first team last season but has not featured since Maurizio Sarri took over as head coach.

However, speaking at a media conference on Tuesday afternoon, assistant boss Gianfranco Zola suggested that the youngster could feature in Wednesday’s game at Stamford Bridge.

He said: “Ampadu has been back in training yesterday, and today or tomorrow we’re going to decide if he’s going to be part of the team.”

Zola also revealed that Eden Hazard is unlikely to be involved against Derby but looks on course to return in Sunday’s Premier League game against Crystal Palace.
