Chelsea youngster Ethan Ampadu is being assessed after suffering a knee injury while playing for Wales.

Ampadu, 18, went off five minutes into the second half of Wales’ 4-1 defeat against Spain at the Principality Stadium on Thursday evening.

Brentford defender Chris Mepham missed the game after picking up an injury in training.

Both players look doubtful for the Nations League game against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin next Tuesday.

Wales boss Ryan Giggs explained: “Ethan just extended his knee a little bit in the second half, and we will assess it and see how it is, and Chris Mepham got a little knock in training yesterday.”

Meanwhile, Brentford defender Ezri Konsa scored as England thrashed Andorra 7-0 to clinch qualification for next year’s European Under-21 Championship.

And QPR’s Ebere Eze set up a goal on his debut for England’s Under-20s, who beat Italy 2-1.
