Derby deny loan move for Chelsea’s Atsu

Derby County manager Steve McClaren has ruled out a loan move for Chelsea’s on-loan Everton winger Christian Atsu.

The Rams are eager to replace Jordon Ibe, who has returned to Liverpool following a loan stint at the iPro Stadium and were interested in the 23-year-old Ghana international.

Atsu has only started four games for the Toffees this season and Chelsea are eager to see him get more game time.

McClaren has admitted he is looking for another wide midfielder, but said Atsu was no longer in the frame.

The winger, who is part of the Ghana squad at the Africa Cup of Nations, joined the Blues from Porto in 2013 but has not played a first-team game while at Stamford Bridge.

Atsu has also spent time on loan with Vitesse Arnhem in the Netherlands.
