Chelsea and PSG agree deal for Luiz

David Luiz looks set to join Paris St-Germain from Chelsea.

The two clubs have agreed a deal worth around £40m, with Luiz, 27, expected to complete a move before the World Cup.

He has also been a target for Barcelona, who made approaches for the Brazil international during the last two summers.

But big-spending PSG now appear to lead the race to sign him and are willing to break their transfer record despite recently failing Uefa’s Financial Fair Play rules.

“The move is now subject to David Luiz agreeing personal terms with PSG and passing a medical,” a statement on Chelsea’s website read.

Luiz joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2011 and still has three years of his contract at Stamford Bridge left to run.

But he has not been a first-choice player under manager Jose Mourinho, who has deployed him in midfield and preferred Gary Cahill and skipper John Terry at centre-back.

There have therefore been doubts over Luiz’s future for some time, with Chelsea looking to fund the arrival of at least one top-class striker this summer while staying within FPP rules.

Luiz has made 143 appearances for the Blues, scoring 12 goals.
