Chelsea lose in friendly against Red Bulls

Asmir Begovic conceded four goals in his first appearance for Chelsea as they began their pre-season campaign with a 4-2 loss against New York Red Bulls.

Loic Remy and Eden Hazard scored for the Blues in New Jersey, while academy players Ola Aina and Dominic Solanke also featured.

Chelsea made a strong start and Remy finished nicely after being set up by Oscar before Victor Moses almost made it 2-0 when he struck the post.

However, the Premier League champions looked rusty after the interval and the Red Bulls were able to capitalise on their mistakes.

John Terry did superbly to clear off the line following an error by keeper Begovic but soon afterwards a sloppy back-pass by the Chelsea skipper enabled Franklin Castellanos to equalise.

Diego Costa, one of a host of half-time substitutes, missed a great chance to restore the lead when he blazed over after his header had come back off the bar.

And more sloppy defending then led to first Tyler Adams and then Sean Davis scoring for the American side.

Hazard fired in to the bottom corner to make it 3-2 before another mistake, this time by Ramires with a misplaced clearance, teed Davis up for another goal.
