Chelsea were totally demolished by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. Here’s how we rated each Blues player in their humiliating 6-0 defeat.
Kepa Arrizabalaga: 5
Left exposed by some dire defending in front of him but should have kept out İlkay Gündoğan’s shot for the fourth goal.
Cesar Azpilicueta: 5
Surely the Spaniard’s worst-ever display for Chelsea. He was given the run around by Raheem Sterling, who scored twice and was brought down by Azpilicueta for the penalty which led to City’s fifth goal.
Antonio Rudiger: 5
Awful during the early spell in which the game was effectively lost. Not too bad at all after that, but the damage had been done.
David Luiz: 5
Looked like being a key player in the game when spraying the ball around during a lively Chelsea start. Deteriorated after that and was woeful at times.
Marcos Alonso: 5
Caught out by Kevin de Bruyne’s quickly-taken free-kick in the build up to the opening goal and never looked convincing. Is suffering a serious dip in form.
Totally anonymous as City ran the show in the midfield. His performances in the deep-lying role simply aren’t justifying the decision to move N’Golo Kante further forward.
N’Golo Kante: 5
Worked hard but again looked lost in the more attacking role boss Maurizio Sarri insists on deploying him in.
Ross Barkley: 5
Ineffective before yet again being replaced by Mateo Kovacic early in the second half.
Tried to create but spend most of his 66 minutes on the pitch trying to help out defensively and Chelsea were being overrun.
Eden Hazard: 6
Looked the part during a spell towards the end of the first half when Chelsea improved somewhat. But that was as good as it got for the Blues talisman.
Gonzalo Higuain: 6
Something resembling a positive on a diabolical day for Chelsea. Isolated up front as the visitors were run ragged, but his link-up play was good and he caused City some problems. There were again signs his partnership with Hazard can flourish.
Mateo Kovacic: 6
Brought on for Barkley – as usual – and was neat and tidy enough.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek: 6
Came on midway through the second half and put himself about.
Did little of note during his 17 minutes on the pitch.
