Speculation continues over Chelsea manager’s job

Stories in Tuesday’s newspapers involving Chelsea…

There continues to be speculation over who will take over as Chelsea manager if Maurizio Sarri leaves for Juventus.

Amid reports that Sarri is set to leave Stamford Bridge for Juve, the Daily Express declare that there is a six-man shortlist to replace him as Blues boss.

The men in the frame are said to be Frank Lampard, outgoing Juve boss Massimiliano Allegri, Ajax’s Erik ten Hag, Wolves’ Nuno Espirito Santo, Watford’s Javi Gracia and England boss Gareth Southgate’s right-hand man Steve Holland, who was previously at Chelsea.

The Express also declare that Chelsea’s target next season will be securing Champions League football again despite the prospect of a transfer ban.

The newspaper say this could count against Derby manager Frank Lampard given the Blues legend’s relative inexperience.

Meanwhile, The Sun have picked up on reports in Italy suggesting that Sarri could take Emerson with him from Chelsea to Juventus.

The Daily Mail say Chelsea’s permanent signing of on-loan Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic is in doubt because of Sarri’s expected departure.

And the Express claim Chelsea have made a £62m bid for Valencia winger Goncalo Guedes, although any deal would hinge on the club successfully appealing against the transfer ban.
