Lampard could axe eight Chelsea players, Sun say

A look at stories in Thursday’s newspapers involving Chelsea…

Jorginho, Ross Barkley and goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga are among eight players The Sun claim are in danger of being axed by Chelsea boss Frank Lampard.

It comes after Lampard criticised Jorginho for picking up a yellow card against Bayern Munich this week.

Lampard also recently dropped Kepa after criticising the Spaniard’s performances and was critical of Barkley earlier in the season.

The Sun say the trio could be “eased out” along with Willian and Pedro – whose contracts expire this summer – and Kurt Zouma and that there are also doubts over the futures of Marcos Alonso and Emerson.

In terms of possible incomings, The Sun again link England duo Jadon Sancho and Ben Chilwell with moves to Stamford Bridge.

The newspaper also suggest a swap deal could be agreed with Atletico Madrid involving Kepa and keeper Jan Oblak.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror say Lampard wants RB Leipzig central defender Dayot Upamecan.

And the Daily Mail say Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham could be set for another spell on the sidelines with more ankle trouble.

The Mail reports that Abraham suffered the new injury during the cool-down on the pitch at the Bridge immediately after the Bayern game.
