Frank Lampard says Chelsea defender Benoit Badiashile could miss the start of next season with a serious hamstring injury.
Badiashile has struggled with injuries since his £33m move to Stamford Bridge in January from Monaco but has been impressive when he has played for the Blues.
Interim boss Lampard confirmed the 21-year-old has not yet undergone surgery but said the injury is more complicated that first feared, with the France international set for a long spell on the sidelines.
“It is a big blow for him and I am really disappointed for Benoit,” Lampard said.
“He has come here and impressed in the games before he got injured and we were really happy with him and I think he will be a big player for the club.
“The injury is very complicated with his hamstring but we are talking months rather than weeks and that is all I can say at the minute.
“But I hope for him he is not missing games and can back stronger over the summer.”
