Abraham injured as Chelsea draw with Valencia

Valencia 2 Chelsea 2

Chelsea were denied by a late equaliser in Spain, where Tammy Abraham was carried away on a stretcher.

Carlos Soler’s goal shortly before half-time put Valencia ahead in the Champions League Group H clash, but Mateo Kovacic equalised almost immediately with his first goal for Chelsea.

Chelsea looked set for the win they needed to clinch a place in the knockout stage when Christian Pulisic gave them a second-half lead and Blues keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga saved a penalty from former QPR midfielder Daniel Parejo.

However, Daniel Wass’ intended cross with eight minutes remaining ended up in the net after Kepa misjudged the flight of the ball.

The result leaves Chelsea on eight points along with Valencia and Ajax, meaning Frank Lampard’s side need a win against Lille in their final group match in order to reach the last 16.

England forward Abraham landed awkwardly on Valencia defender Ezequiel Garay after going up for a header just before half-time.

Abraham walked off the pitch holding his side, but then had to be transferred to a stretcher. He was replaced by Michy Batshuayi at the interval.

Chelsea: Kepa, Azpilicueta, Christensen, Zouma, James, Kante, Jorginho (Emerson 72), Kovacic, Pulisic, Willian (Mount 80), Abraham (Batshuayi 45).
Subs not used: Pedro, Caballero, Giroud, Tomori.
