Chelsea trio play as England Under-19s are hammered

Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah, Dujon Sterling and Conor Gallagher and goalkeeper Ellery Balcombe of Brentford played as England crashed out of the Under-19 European Championship with a 5-0 defeat against France.

Gallagher was brought into the side, while the other three also played in England’s previous two Group B matches – a 3-2 win against Turkey and a 1-1 draw with Ukraine.

Those results meant defending champions England just needed a draw to reach the semi-finals.

But they were emphatically beaten by an excellent French side, who were on top throughout.

There were five Chelsea players in the squad, the others being defender Tariq Lamptey and keeper Jamie Cumming, who were unused substitutes.
