Dismal Chelsea are humiliated by City

Man City 6 Chelsea 0

Sergio Aguero scored a hat-trick as Chelsea were humiliated at the Etihad Stadium.

The Blues, thrashed 4-0 at Bournemouth in their previous away game, were four down against the champions within 25 minutes.

Raheem Sterling put Manchester City ahead after just four minutes and Aguero doubled their lead with a stunning goal eight minutes later.

Aguero helped himself to another goal after an appalling error by Ross Barkley, before İlkay Gündoğan netted the fourth.

Aguero completed his hat-trick with a penalty 11 minutes into the second half after Sterling had been fouled by Cesar Azpilicueta.

And Sterling added the sixth with 10 minutes remaining to add insult to injury for Chelsea, whose defeat was the club’s heaviest since 1991.

City’s opener came after Bernando Silva darted behind a gap between Marcos Alonso and Eden Hazard to collect Kevin de Bruyne’s quickly-taken free-kick.

Silva’s cross from the right took a deflection into the path of Sterling, who fired in from near the edge of the six-yard box.

Aguero was then guilty of an astonishing miss when he contrived to shoot wide from a yard out at the far post after being teed up by Silva.

But the Argentine atoned in brilliant fashion, unleashing a right-footed strike from 30 yards out which flew past keeper Kepa and into the top corner of the net.

When Barkley’s dismal attempt to head the ball back to Kepa inside the Chelsea penalty area dropped straight to Aguero, he coolly added the third.

The fourth was also something of a gift for City.

Antonio Rudiger made a mess of trying to clear Aguero’s cross and Gündoğan tried his luck with a shot Kepa should have saved.

Aguero continued to put Chelsea to the sword after the interval, heading a De Bruyne’s cross against the bar shortly before his spot-kick made it five.

Sterling netted his second and City’s sixth by nudging home Oleksandr Zinchenko’s cross.
