Barkley injury ‘looks a bit nasty’

Chelsea are assessing an ankle injury Ross Barkley suffered against Newcastle.

Barkley went off shortly before half-time at Stamford Bridge, where the Blues won 1-0 – their fifth consecutive victory in all competitions.

Manager Frank Lampard said after the game he was unsure whether Barkley is likely to miss Wednesday’s Champions League game against Ajax.

Lampard said: “Ross has turned his ankle and it looks a bit nasty at first glance but the doctor wants to have a look tomorrow, so I’ll know more then.”

The win was Chelsea’s third in a row in the Premier League and leaves them in the top four.

“It’s good. We want to be challenging in the top four,” Lampard said.

“From a slightly difficult start that we had, it’s a good sign that we’re moving in the right direction.

“But all that must be is an incentive for us. Football can change in an instant and so our arrival into the top four must only give us the hunger to stay there and move on.”

  • How I wish Barkley's injury can keep him out of Chelsea's squad for at least 6 months.
As long as Chelsea is concern Barkley is a terrible player. I don't like seeing him in my team.
He should get out of Chelsea at once!
