Drinkwater and Batshuayi could feature under Lampard – Guardian

Stories in Saturday’s newspapers involving the area’s clubs….

Danny Drinkwater and Michy Batshuayi will be given chances to relaunch their Chelsea careers under new boss Frank Lampard, reports say.

Drinkwater was frozen out by Lampard’s predecessor Maurizio Sarri, while striker Batshuayi has been unable to establish himself as a first-team regular at Stamford Bridge.

The Guardian suggest both players could feature under Lampard, whose return to Chelsea as manager was confirmed this week.

The Guardian also say Alvaro Morata is unlikely to return despite reports Chelsea could recall him from his loan spell at Atletico Madrid.

The Daily Express run a similar story, declaring that Drinkwater could be brought in from the cold by Lampard.

The stories are based on comments made by Lampard as a news conference on Thursday when he was officially unveiled as Blues boss.

“Everybody will have the opportunity to show what they can do,” Lampard said.

“I will be looking at their attitude, the way they play and train, in pre-season and onwards.

“I would be a fool to come here with ideas that I’m going to freeze anybody out. I want to get the best out of the squad.

“Everybody has an opportunity. I have no preconceived ideas about anybody.

“I already have a good knowledge of the squad, but I need to see them over the next month.”

Meanwhile, Brentford midfielder Romaine Sawyers is a target for Scottish champions Celtic, according to the Daily Record.

It is claimed that Celtic want the Bees star for £2.5m and have lined up Sawyers after a proposed move for Motherwell’s David Turnbull collapsed.

The Record say Celtic watched the player prior to his move to Griffin Park from Walsall and are now looking to sign him.

And The Sun reports that Joel Lynch, released by QPR this summer, could join Premier League newcomers Sheffield United.
