Injured Hudson-Odoi undergoes ‘successful’ operation

Callum Hudson-Odoi has had a successful operation on his ruptured Achilles tendon, Chelsea have announced.

The teenager limped off near the end of the first half of Monday’s 2-2 draw with Burnley at Stamford Bridge.

A Chelsea statement read: “Callum successfully underwent surgery on his ruptured Achilles tendon.

“He will miss the rest of this campaign and will spend the summer undergoing rehabilitation in order to resume full training as soon as possible.”

A ruptured Achilles tendon is generally regarded as one of the worst injuries players can suffer and it can often sideline them for long periods.

The injury is a big blow for the winger, who recently made his Premier League and England debuts and is hugely popular among Blues fans.

His contract expires next year and Chelsea, who rejected offers for him from Bayern Munich in January, are keen for him to sign a new deal.

Earlier on Wednesday, Hudson-Odoi posted a video on social media to thank fans for their support, telling them he is “doing better and better”.
