Speculation over Hazard’s future after Zidane’s Real return
Stories in Tuesday’s newspapers involving Chelsea…
Zinedine Zidane’s return as Real Madrid boss has inevitably led to speculation that Eden Hazard might now be more likely to join the Spanish club.
Zidane had been tipped to replace under-pressure head coach Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea, which led to reports that appointing the Frenchman, who is idolised by Hazard, could convince him to stay at Stamford Bridge.
Hazard’s contract expires next year and he has made no secret of his desire to play for Real.
Several newspapers have duly reported that Zidane going back for a second spell as Real boss will affect Chelsea’s chances of keeping their talisman.
The Independent say Real president Florentino Perez has promised Zidane £300m to spend this summer and that Hazard is on the wanted list.
The Sun, meanwhile, declare that Zidane’s return to Madrid is Chelsea’s “worst nightmare” in their quest to keep Hazard.
And the Daily Telegraph go a step further, claiming that Real have already made an approach to Chelsea for Hazard in an attempt to agree a deal.
