Chelsea confirm signing of Green

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of former England goalkeeper Rob Green on a one-year deal.

The 38-year-old was a free agent after recently leaving Huddersfield Town and has signed a one-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

Green, who had a four-year spell at QPR, was considering retiring from the game before being given the chance to join Chelsea.

“It has been a whirlwind 24 hours. You are thinking about your career and where you want to go and then you get a phone call like this, and it is a short conversation,” he told Chelsea’s website.

“It has been a pretty dramatic time for me and I can’t wait to get started. I am absolutely delighted and it is a thrill and an honour to be here.”

With Eduardo and Jamal Blackman out on loan, the Blues were looking to add a keeper to their squad for the coming season.

Green made his name at Norwich and spent six years at West Ham.

In 2012 he joined QPR, making 128 appearances during an eventful stay at Loftus Road which included a promotion, two relegations and various behind-the-scenes problems.

He was released by Rangers in 2016 and spent a year with Leeds before joining Huddersfield, where he did not make a single appearance.
