Speculation continues over Chelsea manager’s job

Stories in Wednesday’s newspapers involving Chelsea…

There continues to be speculation over the Chelsea manager’s job amid reports that Maurizio Sarri is set to leave for Juventus.

The Daily Mirror say Chelsea want a new man in place by the time Sarri is confirmed as Juve boss.

It comes after reports Jose Mourinho could make a shock return to Chelsea for a third spell in charge – and after Rio Ferdinand described his former England team-mate Frank Lampard as “the perfect choice” for the Blues job.

The Daily Mail say Chelsea have held talks about bringing in club legend Lampard as manager.

According to the Mail, Chelsea officials have spoken to Derby about the possibility of him leaving the East Midlands club to return to Stamford Bridge.

The Sun, on the other hand, say Chelsea have not made an approach for Lampard and want Sarri to remain.

The newspaper declare that the club have launched “an amazing last-ditch attempt” to convince Sarri to stay.

The Sun also say Mourinho is open to returning to the Bridge and that Callum Hudson-Odoi wants assurances over his first-team prospects before signing a new Chelsea contract.
