Mason Mount has laughed off a suggestion that he could end up playing for Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Mitchell van Bergen, who played alongside Mount at Vitesse Arnhem when the Chelsea youngster was on loan at the Dutch club, was recently quoted as saying: “I see him eventually ending up at Barcelona or Real Madrid. I think he will fit there.”

Mount said: “I saw what Mitchell said. I’m obviously very close to him – we had a very close bond. He’s a brilliant player.

“But my focus is on Chelsea and this is my first year, so I don’t look too far ahead.

“My focus is on the next game, that’s kind of how far I look ahead.”

Mount is savouring what has been an outstanding season for him so far.

Promoted to the first team by boss Frank Lampard, he has established himself as a key player for the Blues and forced his way into the England reckoning.

Speaking on the eve of the Champions League game against Ajax, Mount said: “It’s been brilliant. Obviously I’m loving every moment of it.

“It’s a positive to have scored a couple of goals as well – probably I didn’t think I’ve have four goals so far.

“But we know we need to keep working hard. A lot of the young players are doing well, so we just need to keep focusing and hopefully this carries on and we keep getting results.”
