Last-gasp Hazard equaliser rescues Chelsea

Chelsea 1 Wolves 1

Chelsea needed an injury-time equaliser by Eden Hazard to salvage a point at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues’ troubled season took another turn for the worse when Raul Jimenez scored 11 minutes into the second half – totally against the run of play.

Chelsea dominated possession but struggled to create clear-cut chances and were then hit with a sucker punch.

Diogo Jota collected Jimenez’s flick and pulled the ball back to the Mexican, whose shot took a deflection off Cesar Azpilicueta and trickled in.

Chelsea badly needed a win in their quest for a top-four finish and a defeat would have heaped even more pressure back on head coach Maurizio Sarri, who was again barracked by frustrated fans.

Those fans were relieved to see Hazard deliver yet again, skipping past Ruben Neves and firing home from 25 yards out.

Gonzalo Higuain had missed a great chance to equalise when he was unable to add the decisive touch to Hazard’s corner from a couple of yards out.
