Speculation over Sarri’s future continues

There continues to be speculation over the future of Maurizio Sarri.

The Daily Mirror say Sarri will be sacked if Chelsea lose Sunday’s Carabao Cup final to Manchester City.

Blues legend Frank Lampard, now manager of Derby, is said to be a contender to take over at Stamford Bridge, as are Zinedine Zidane and Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri.

The Sun say sacking Sarri would cost Chelsea a relatively low sum of £5m, which would be the cheapest pay-off of a manager since Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003.

The Daily Telegraph say Sarri is on the brink of being sacked, while The Guardian say he will stay for now but is on thin ice and could be sacked if Chelsea lose at Wembley this weekend.

Chelsea fans barracked Sarri during Monday’s FA Cup defeat against Manchester United at the Bridge.

And The Independent has suggested that the under-pressure head coach is also losing the support of his players.

Sarri insisted his relationship with his players was “good” following the United game and that he was unfazed by criticism from fans.

But The Independent reported on Tuesday that sources have said that the squad “initially thought the Italian was an impressive educator” but “now feel totally ‘overloaded’” by his tactical instructions.

Earlier this week, The Sun claimed that Zidane is interested in managing Chelsea and would like to speak to the club but would want conditions met before taking the job.

The newspaper recently claimed that Chelsea want former Real Madrid boss Zidane to take over if Sarri is axed.

Now The Sun has declared that “the French legend is keen to talk seriously about taking over as boss.”

But it is also claimed that Zidane would set three conditions before agreeing to take over at Stamford Bridge.

They are that Eden Hazard signs a new Chelsea contract, that Zidane is given £200m to spend – and more if players are sold – and that he has a major say in recruitment alongside Blues director Marina Granovskaia.

Over the weekend, the Daily Mail reported that Chelsea’s players believe a change is in the offing following a recent poor run of results, which included a 6-0 hammering at Manchester City.

One player is said to have “confided in his adviser” that he thinks Sarri is close to being sacked.

The Mail also suggested Abramovich’s interest in the club is dwindling and that the Russian now has “less inclination” to compete with big-spending City and Manchester United for top players.

Meanwhile, The Times reported that key figures at the club are questioning Granovskaia’s judgement.

  • Chelsea need to do away with some players in thier 1st eleven because they not in form like luiz and others. And at the sametime players like kante should be allowed to play their right positions. sarri should go bcos he too dogmatic in his tactics and use of players, i wondered why players with zeal to play are benched like odoi, barkley etc. the cfc board should send sarri parking for chelsea to progress in the epl and others.

  • I think this Marina needs a rest and Abramovich find the one can do best as a director. We loose because of her taking the role of a coach choosing players he wants. Sarri too must be sacked due to poor result. How can him play Kante on his unfavourable position? he is a trophyless coach. He has been in Italy for 10years winning nothing. Its time for Abramovich to take action before weekend or after to take change

  • I saw this coming when Sarri allowed fabrigas to leave, leaving hyped players like joninho and more so Backley in the team. I don't really know what Backley is doing in Chelsea line up till now! Benching kovacic for Backley is madness!! Fabrigas is a classy and proven player who can single handedly pick something from nothing. I will rather keep him in my club till 35. Player of his caliber is difficult to find!! How can someone call himself a midfielder (Joninho) without assist and just a goal in 26 games. He can't track back and can't favor forward passes, just backward and sideways passes yet some one blames, the top 9 for lack of goals? Man United beat us black and blue because of pick up passes.
Costa was formidable in Chelsea because of more pickup passes from fabrigas.
Even a blind man knows Kante is one of the best four in the world football. Playing a player who Is instrumental to two EPL titles and a World Cup medal out of position and keep on doing this same thing over and over again without results. This is insanity!!! We have one of the best attacking players in the form of Higuain, Pedro, William, Hodson and hazard. This Sarri ball is not just the way forward. Instead of losing our priceless assets, I think is high time he left Chelea.

  • I totally agree with some comment that , instead of football Ms Marina is running the club as profit making business. Also she is thinking that she is more knowledgeable than the coach -how to choose player.
She should run the club as director , talk to Manager, player to find way to move forward.
Without winning nothing will be gained by Chelsea & its fan .

  • Sarri out Zidane in before Sunday will be the best decision chelsea has ever made

  • Chelsea is a club where crisis has become perenial. If there is anyone that needs to resign first, it is the board. They have infamously become specialists in firing coaches and hiring unuseful players than anything else.tThe crisis in Chelsea is simply first and foremost that of football not player management,Competent management would have known that Sarri was an unchattered water and hardly what was needed after Jose and Conte episodes. As for the players more than half of the first eleven cannot make the first team of three of the first four in EPL.Hire Pep and after one good season we are back to Marinagate.

  • am not happy, as a fan in Kenya. the Chelsea defense is exposed, we need team work from the owner, board and players during recruitment, training and playing. Chelsea win!

  • I think Marina Granovskai is to be blame for Chelsea's problems, she need to employ a football director to help move the club forward in terms of hiring of coaching and playing staffs. She don't under football, football is different from managing any other business.

  • I think Chelsea should panish Sárri with fayring him to go out of Chelsea immedetiry.
