Cech to be offered Chelsea role as part of shake-up – Telegraph

Stories in Saturday’s newspapers involving Chelsea…

Chelsea are set to offer Petr Cech a role at the club as part of a shake-up that is also likely to include a new manager, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Arsenal goalkeeper Cech, who spent 11 trophy-laden years with the Blues, is retiring from playing at the end of the season.

The Telegraph say he is being lined up for a behind-the-scenes role in a revamp of the club.

Head coach Sarri is under pressure and reports in his native Italy suggest he would like to return there. He has been linked with the manager’s job at Roma.

Another legend from Cech’s time at Stamford Bridge, Frank Lampard, who is now managing Derby County, is among those to have been touted as a possible replacement for Sarri.

The Telegraph believe former Paris St-Germain and France boss Laurent Blanc would be keen to take over and that Chelsea have doubts about appointing Lampard at this stage, feeling the jump from the Championship with Derby would be too big so early in his managerial career.

Meanwhile, the Daily Star reports that Real Madrid have offered Chelsea the option to extend Mateo Kovacic’s loan for another season – but with an obligation to then buy the midfielder for £26m.

And the Daily Mail reports that a Chelsea fan accused of racially abusing Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling will not be prosecuted. Lip-readers have reportedly supported his claim that he did not aim a racist remark at the player.
