QPR youngster Charlie Fox has been given his first professional contract. The 19-year-old defender, who has been on Rangers’ books since the age of eight, has signed a one-year deal.

£280m game

Fulham’s Championship play-off final against Aston Villa on Saturday could be worth at least £280m for the winners, figures compiled by Deloitte suggest.

Mount training with England

Chelsea captain Gary Cahill has not joined England’s World Cup squad yet as Blues and Manchester United players have been given time off following their involvement in the FA Cup final.

Chelsea youngster Mason Mount has been with the squad after being invited to train with them by England boss Gareth Southgate. Mount impressed on loan at Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem last season.

Raheem Sterling has yet to meet up with the squad. The Harlesden-raised Manchester City forward was given special dispensation because of a private matter.

Middlesex squad named

Middlesex have named their 15-man squad for the Royal London One-Day Cup game at Glamorgan.
Squad: Steven Finn (captain), Tom Barber, Hilton Cartwright, Stephen Eskinazi, James Franklin, James Fuller, Nick Gubbins, James Harris, Tom Helm, Max Holden, Eoin Morgan, Ravi Patel, John Simpson (wicket-keeper), Nathan Sowter, Paul Stirling.

No ghosts

Paul Gustard has insisted there are “no ghosts” around his England departure.

England’s defence specialist will take over as Harlequins boss after June’s three-Test South Africa tour, starting work at Quins on July 1.

He said: “It’s based on opportunity. There’s no ghosts here. Nothing about England was wrong.

“In regards to walking away from something because something wasn’t right, that’s nonsense.”
