FA charge Chelsea over discriminatory chanting during Fulham game

Chelsea have been charged by the Football Association over alleged discriminatory conduct by fans during the recent Premier League game against Fulham.

The FA confirmed the charge relates to the ninth minute of Chelsea’s 3-2 win at Craven Cottage on 24 August, with the club accused of breaching Rule E21 by failing to prevent spectators behaving in an improper or abusive manner.

An FA spokesperson said it was alleged the conduct “included a reference, whether express or implied, to religion or belief.”

Chelsea addressed the matter directly with supporters in the aftermath of the match, telling fans the club had received several reports of sectarian chanting from a minority inside the away end. The club stated it does not tolerate discriminatory chanting of any kind and warned that anyone identified as responsible would face severe punishment.

It is not the first time the issue has arisen around the club. Chelsea publicly criticised a supporter in 2021 after footage circulated online appearing to show sectarian abuse directed at then-Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn.
