Essugo joins Strasbourg on loan and Washington is sold

Midfielder Dario Essugo has joined Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg on a season-long loan, while striker Deivid Washington is moving to the French side on a permanent transfer.

The 21-year-old signed from Portuguese club Sporting for £18m in 2025 and had also been wanted by Hull City.

Essugo became Sporting’s youngest-ever player and the youngest player to feature in Portugal’s top division, when he played aged 16 years and six days old.

Washington joined Chelsea in August 2023 for £17.2m but has only made three appearances for the club.

Meanwhile, Dujuan Richards has joined League One club AFC Wimbledon on a season-long loan.
