Giroud scores hat-trick as Chelsea run riot in Kiev

Dynamo Kiev 0 Chelsea 5
(Chelsea win 8-0 on aggregate)

Olivier Giroud scored a hat-trick in Kiev where Chelsea emphatically sealed their place in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Callum Hudson-Odoi and Marcos Alonso also netted for the Blues, who were 3-0 up from the first leg and stretched their aggregate lead when Giroud headed in Willian’s corner after just four minutes.

Giroud calmly tucked away Alonso’s excellent cross on 33 minutes, and Hudson-Odoi, in the Chelsea line-up along with Ruben Loftus-Cheek, created the third goal on the stroke of half-time.

Hudson-Odoi cut in from the right, exchanged passes with Giroud, and teed up Alonso for a simple finish.

Dynamo Kiev captain Serhiy Sydorchuk hit the post before Giroud completed his hat-trick just before the hour mark by heading in Willian’s free-kick – his ninth European goal of the season.

Goalkeeper Denys Boyko then denied Alonso a second goal by producing a brilliant save to tip the Spaniard’s free-kick on to the post.

Giroud set up Hudson-Odoi’s goal with a fine through-ball to the youngster, who held off a challenge and fired home to complete a resounding Chelsea win.
