Di Matteo relishing Leeds cup clash

Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo said he was relishing the prospect of a League Cup clash with Leeds following his team’s dramatic win over Manchester United.

The Blues will face Neil Warnock’s side at Elland Road in the quarter-finals after coming from behind three times to beat United 5-4.

Matches between Chelsea and Leeds are traditionally feisty affairs and recent comments by Warnock are sure to add spice to this encounter.

The former QPR boss this week condemned Chelsea for lodging a complaint about referee Mark Clattenburg.

Di Matteo, who joined Chelsea as a player when Leeds chairman Ken Bates was at Stamford Bridge, said: “It will be an interesting game. We’ll have plenty time to think about that.

“It’s always difficult to go and play away from home and with Leeds and Chelsea there is a bit of history there, which I remember as a player.

“He [Warnock] has got his style of football and he has to be respected. ”

Di Matteo heaped praise on his players, who reached the last eight despite some terrible defensive mistakes.

“We showed heart and that we did not want to lose this game,” he said

“I’m very pleased with the players. There were some mistakes, but that doesn’t matter.

“We’re trying to change the way we play and at times we will make mistakes, but we’ll learn from them.”
