Murphy: Abraham too unpredictable for Tuchel

Cheksea striker Tammy Abraham

Danny Murphy believes Thomas Tuchel “doesn’t fancy” Tammy Abraham as a player because of the Chelsea striker’s unpredictability and inconsistency.

Abraham has been tipped to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after being overlooked by Blues boss Tuchel.

Speaking on Talksport, former Fulham midfielder Murphy said: “He doesn’t fancy him. He does score goals, but he’s not particularly reliable. He’s quite unorthodox, Tammy.

“He’s somebody who’s a real handful and somebody who can score goals. But actually, in terms of what he (Tuchel) is trying to achieve and the way the team play, he likes to know what his players are giving him.”

Many Chelsea fans have been dismayed that Abraham has been left out in the cold despite the team’s shortcomings in front of goal.

While Timo Werner has struggled, a proven goalscorer in Abraham has recently been left out of the squad.

But Murphy said: “With Werner, you know what you’re getting. He’ll keep making the runs in the channels, he’s reasonably reliable on the link-up and his non-stop work ethic is phenomenal.

“He’s going to be predictable in what he’s doing, so the other players know what he’s going to do.

“You watch Tammy and sometimes he looks like a world-beater and at other times you don’t see him for 85 minutes.

“He’s a bit inconsistent with his link-up. He sometimes has hot streaks we’re he’ll go five games scoring and then have five where he doesn’t.

“I just don’t think that Tuchel is the type of manager that likes players when he’s not sure what he’s getting.”
