Antonio Conte has refused to say why he moved Gary Cahill from the left of Chelsea’s defence to the right against Roma.

Blues boss Conte made the switch for the 3-0 Champions League defeat in the Italian capital this week.

Asked at a media conference on Friday why he made the change, Conte said: “I think that, honestly, I don’t want to answer this question. Who must understand, understands. That is my answer.”

Conte confirmed that Cahill will play against Manchester United on Sunday in the left-sided role.

“He is very good to play on the left. We won the league with Cahill in this position,” Conte said.

“I think Cahill can play on the right or the left, but the best position for me is on the left.”
