Conte keen for Chelsea to make signings

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte says he would like to add to his squad ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline but is unsure whether the club will bring anyone in.

Conte says he has told the club’s hierarchy – led by technical director Michael Emenalo – he wants to add depth to his squad in the final days of the window.

However, the Italian concedes he does not know if his request will be successful.[phone][/phone]

“I don’t know what will happen at the end of this window,” Conte said.

“I think that we have to improve our squad in the numbers of players, because I think that in some roles we have only a few players.

“The club knows my thoughts about this. If we stay with these players I’m very happy. If it happens, I’m very happy, if it doesn’t we will continue this way.”

Conte added he was unsure whether Chelsea will sign Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon – but insisted Asmir Begovic would not be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge unless a replacement is signed.
