Antonio Conte has dismissed suggestions that Willian could become unsettled at Chelsea because of his lack of game time.

There has been speculation about the Brazilian’s future, with reports claiming he could leave Stamford Bridge when the transfer window reopens in January.

However, Blues boss Conte insisted the likes of Willian, Pedro and even Eden Hazard have to accept there might be times when they are not in the starting line-up.

Hazard was eased back after missing the start of the season following ankle surgery, while Pedro has been in and out of the team in recent months.

Asked about Willian at a media conference on Tuesday, Conte said: “Why are you asking me about Willian and not Hazard at the start of the season and Pedro in the same situation? Every game I have to make the best decision.

“My players must be happy to stay at Chelsea and play for our fans, if they start the game or stay on the bench and then come on. I think I have clever players who understand and accept the situation.

“Hazard at the start of the season accepted the situation to stay on the bench to find the right form.

“It was the same for Pedro, Willian and other players. When you are in a great team you have to accept this.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea are assessing David Luiz, who is struggling with a knee problem.
