Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has suggested that Cesc Fabregas needs a rest.

Fabregas has already made almost as many starts this season – 16 of the Blues’ 19 matches in all competitions – as he did last term.

He was pressed into action regularly in the early weeks of the campaign following the sale of Nemanja Matic and the late arrival of his replacement Danny Drinkwater, who was then injured, plus the injury to Tiemoue Bakayoko.

And Conte believes that busy schedule could soon catch up with Fabregas.

“Last season, maybe he didn’t deserve to start the games but now he’s deserving to play regularly,” Conte said.

“At the same time I understand he needs a bit of rest because he’s playing every game.

“Now I have four midfielders in good form and I need to have rotation.”
