Conte blames himself after Chelsea defeat

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte said he would take responsibility for his side’s defeat at Manchester United.

The Blues were unable to re-establish a seven-point lead over second-placed Tottenham, going down to 2-0 at Old Trafford.

“I think that they deserved to win because they showed more desire and more motivation,” Conte said.

“But in this case I think the fault is (with) the coach. It is mine. In this case I wasn’t able to transfer the right desire and motivation to play this type of game.

“To play in this type of game from now until the end of the season we must have real enthusiasm, motivation and passion to reach the target which for us is a fantastic target.

“Every game is different from the other and I repeat: today they deserved to win the game and we must be honest about this.”

Conte also admitted he is concerned by the fact that his team have now not kept a clean sheet in 10 Premier League matches.

“For sure I am concerned. We have to work together and we have to quickly find the right desire to win,” he said.

“If someone thinks it is normal for Chelsea to win they are wrong. We started the season as underdogs and started the season with great difficulty.

“We are still in a great position but Tottenham are in good form and playing very well and we must have the same.”
