Chelsea win first leg of Youth Cup final

Chelsea’s Under-18s took a big step towards retaining the trophy by winning 3-1 at Manchester City in the first leg of the FA Youth Cup final.

Tammy Abraham scored twice and Dominic Solanke [pictured] added the third to leave the young Blues in a commanding position ahead of next Monday’s second leg at Stamford Bridge, although there is no away goals rule in the Youth Cup.

Abraham opened the scoring 10 minutes before half-time at City’s Academy Stadium – his 35th goal of the season.

The striker controlled Charlie Colkett’s pass on his chest and smashed the ball beyond goalkeeper Kjetil Haug.

City equalised just two minutes later when Isaac Buckley-Ricketts netted after being set up by Brandon Barker.

But Chelsea were back in front by half-time. Again Colkett was involved and again Abraham applied the finish, this time from close range.

City had chances in the second half but were hit with a late sucker punch when Solanke also took his tally for the season to 35, slotting home after being set up by Charly Musonda.
