Chelsea waiting on Cahill and Ramires

Chelsea are unsure whether Gary Cahill and Ramires will be available for this weekend’s game against Southampton.

Cahill picked up a knee injury in the Blues’ recent win against West Ham and missed England’s World Cup qualifiers this week.

Ramires suffered a thigh strain in the same match and was forced to withdraw from Brazil’s squad for their game against Russia.

Both players are due to be assessed ahead of the trip to the south coast and interim manager Rafael Benitez is hopeful they will be able to play.

He said: “Cahill is still working with the physios. Still we have a couple of days and we will see. They could be involved, but it will be close.”

Benitez expects to rotate his squad during a hectic period of fixtures for Chelsea, who are involved in the FA Cup and Europa League as well as the battle for a top-four finish.

“With four games in nine days, it’s the same for everyone – you can’t play all the games and be at 100% fitness,” he explained.
