Chelsea suffer first WSL defeat since May 2024

Chelsea suffered their first Women’s Super League defeat since May 2024, losing 1-0 at home to Everton.

The loss was Chelsea’s first in the league under boss Sonia Bompastor and left the champions six points adrift of leaders Manchester City.

Honoka Hayashi netted at the far post after being set up by Toni Payne – and that 12th-minute goal was enough to give the visitors victory at Kingsmeadow.

Chelsea nearly equalised when Sandy Baltimore corner ricocheted in the box and hit the post.

And they hit the woodwork again late on when Wieke Kaptein headed against the bar.
