Chelsea star Mata dismisses Barca link

Juan Mata has dismissed reports he could leave Chelsea this summer.

The Spaniard, who scored 20 goals for his club last season, has recently been linked with Barcelona.

However, in an interview with AS, Mata said: “I don’t know where that came from.

“The last time I spoke with the club they told me I was a very important player to them and transmitted confidence in me.

“I’m sure Jose Mourinho will want to see everyone first and then decide what he wants to do.

“After the holidays and after I’ve rested I’ll meet the new boss and I’m sure things will go well.”

Mata, 25, is one of several players linked with a possible move from Stamford Bridge following Mourinho’s return as Chelsea manager.

He has also been touted as a potential target for Real Madrid, where he began his career.

But Mata said: “I’ve spent two great years in London and the only thing I’m thinking about now is continuing to enjoy this league and this city that I love.”
