Loftus-Cheek agrees new Chelsea contract

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has agreed a new contract with Chelsea.

The England midfielder, 23, is recovering from a long-term injury, having suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon towards the end of last season.

He was finally enjoying a run in the first team – and that has convinced him to commit his future to the club, where his current contract has two years left to run.

Loftus-Cheek, who spent the season before last on loan at Crystal Palace, had previously suggested that he might leave Stamford Bridge in order to play regular football.

However, his run in the side cemented his position at the club and his decision to sign a new contract is an immediate boost for incoming manager Frank Lampard.

Speaking in May before suffering his injury, Loftus-Cheek said: “This is the most I’ve played, so it’s looking good for me.

“There’s no reason why I should now be thinking about leaving Chelsea.”
