Chelsea snap up two highly-rated youngsters

Chelsea have signed two youngsters from Cambridge United’s academy.

Marcel Lewis and Dion Rankine, who were spotted playing for Cambridge’s Under-15 and Under-14 teams respectively, have been snapped up after a compensation fee was agreed between the two clubs.

A number of Premier League sides have been keeping tabs on the pair in recent months.

“It reflects the quality within our academy that a top club such as Chelsea are willing to pay this level of compensation for two of our players,” said Cambridge assistant manager Mark Bonner.

“We thank Chelsea for their professionalism and the respect in which they have shown us. We wish both boys the very best in their new journey.

“It’s a credit to the coaching programme that they have been a part of and the coaches they have worked with for a number of years, which has helped them to fulfil their potential.”
