Sheffield United v Chelsea player ratings

Chelsea were punished for some terrible defending in a 3-0 defeat at Sheffield United. Here’s how we rated each Blues player.

Kepa Arrizabalaga: 6

Left exposed for all three goals. Was particularly unfortunate for the first, which came when David McGoldrick scored from the rebound after Kepa had made a good save.

Reece James: 6

A reasonable display but there were few glimpses of the dangerous right-wing crosses he is capable of serving up.

Andreas Christensen: 5

Withdrawn at half-time after struggling badly. Too slow to react in the build up to the second goal.

Kurt Zouma: 5

Fully committed and prepared to put his body on the line, but was caught out on several occasions.

Cesar Azpilicueta: 6

Asked again to play at left-back and tried to make the best of it as usual. Solid enough.

Ross Barkley: 6

Caused some problems for the home side before going off in the second half.

Jorginho: 5

Very poor. Too slow with and without the ball, which Sheffield United happily exposed. Will we see him in a Chelsea shirt again?

Willian: 5

Has been in great form but was poor this time. At fault for the second goal, when he switched off and failed to stop the cross.

Mason Mount: 6

Plenty of effort and was prepared to drop back and defend, but made no real impact in an attacking sense.

Christian Pulisic: 5

Another Chelsea player who has been in fine form but just didn’t perform in this one.

Tammy Abraham: 5

Ineffective up front and unable to make the most of a couple of decent chances.

Antonio Rudiger: 5

A bad mistake for the third goal and his performance after coming on at half-time will do nothing to sway his critics.

Marcos Alonso: 6

Got forward well and made a positive difference after being introduced for the second half.

Olivier Giroud: 6

Perhaps unfortunate not to start, he gave Chelsea more bite up front after his introduction.
