Chelsea youngster Sterling joins Coventry on loan

Chelsea: Dujon Sterling

Chelsea youngster Dujon Sterling has joined Coventry City on a season-long loan.

The Sky Blues, recently promoted to League One, were one of several EFL clubs to express an interest in Sterling.

The 18-year-old, who is primarily a right-back but can also play as a winger, wing-back or in midfield, made his senior debut for Chelsea against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup last season.

An England Under-19 international, Sterling will now get a chance to play regular first-team football, having impressed for Chelsea’s development side in the last couple of seasons.

“Dujon is someone with great pedigree and a lot of potential, as shown by his international recognition, who will add another dimension to our play,” Coventry manager Mark Robins told the club’s website.

“Though primarily a defender, he can play anywhere down the right-hand side of the pitch and makes use of his skill and pace.

“We look forward to seeing him develop during his time with us and contributing to our season.”

Sterling is the second Chelsea youngster in as many days to be loaned out, with Trevoh Chalobah having joined Ipswich Town.
