Chelsea confirm signing of Batshuayi

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of striker Michy Batshuayi from Marseille.

The 22-year-old has joined for an undisclosed fee, reported to be in the region of £33m, and has signed a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge.

He was part of Belgium’s European Championship squad and scored with his first touch after coming on as a substitute in their recent 4-0 win against Hungary.

Batshuayi, Chelsea’s first signing since Antonio Conte was appointed as Blues boss, scored 23 goals for Marseille last season.

“I am delighted to sign for one of the biggest clubs in Europe and embark on the next chapter in my career. I hope I can help Chelsea win many trophies during my time at Stamford Bridge,” Batshuayi told Chelsea’s website.

“Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois have told me many good things about the club, and with Antonio Conte coming in it’s an exciting time to become a Chelsea player.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for myself and my family. I am looking forward to playing in the Premier League next season.”
