Chelsea end interest in Brazilian forward

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas says the club have ended their pursuit of Shakhtar Donetsk forward Willian.

Villas-Boas previously played down his interest in the Brazilian because he would be cup-tied for the Champions League were he to move this season.

And the Blues appear to have given up any attempt to sign him before the transfer deadline, having failed to agree a fee.

“Willian is an extremely interesting player but I don’t think we will be progressing with our interest,” said Villas-Boas.

Chelsea are set to complete the signing of Genk winger Kevin de Bruyne, who is expected to return to the Belgian club on loan for the rest of the season once his transfer has been rubber-stamped.

And Villas-Boas says he does not expect further additions before the window closes next week.

“Prices in January are inflated and you have to take that into account,” he said.
