Marcos Alonso and Mateo Kovacic have been passed fit to play for Chelsea at Wolves despite minor injury concerns.

Alonso has been nursing a back problem, while Kovacic was taken off midway through the second half after picking up an ankle injury during the win against Fulham.

Blues boss Maurizio Sarri revealed at a media conference on Tuesday afternoon that he had spoken to the club’s medical staff and been told that both players would be fit enough for the game at Molineux.

“I spoke with the doctor 10 minutes ago and we have no injuries at the moment,” Sarri said.

“We had a little problem with Kovacic in the last match and also Alonso. But for the doctor they are able to play.

“Now we have to see in the last training session just in order to understand if there is somebody tired after the (Fulham) match.”

Sarri played down suggestions that Alonso’s injury explains his below-par performance against Fulham.

The Spaniard has been consistently excellent for Chelsea but was unusually poor in Sunday’s derby.

“I don’t know. You cannot I think say that after the match,” Sarri said.

“Maybe during the match the back wasn’t right. This is possible, I don’t know. I want to speak to him.

“He didn’t play very well. I know this very well and I think Alonso also knows very well that he didn’t play very well.

“Today we will see the reaction with the back. For the doctor, the back is better.”

Meanwhile, Sarri insisted that he wants David Luiz and Cesc Fabregas to be given new contracts.
