Havertz and Kovacic to be assessed ahead of Leicester game

Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic are expected to have fitness tests before Chelsea’s game against Leicester.

Havertz missed the FA Cup final against Liverpool on Saturday with a hamstring problem but was due to train on Wednesday afternoon and could be involved against the Foxes.

Kovacic was patched up to play at Wembley but is still struggling with ankle trouble and seems unlikely to be involved on Thursday.

Timo Werner, who also has a hamstring problem, has been ruled out.

“Kai tries today (Wednesday) in training,” boss Thomas Tuchel explained.

“He did individual training yesterday but was not in team training, so still a big question mark.

“Kova had a big swollen ankle after the match and did not train yesterday, so not sure that he will be available.”

Tuchel described Ben Chiwell’s return to training this week as a “big uplift” for the Chelsea camp.

Chilwell, who has missed most of the campaign after suffering anterior cruciate ligament damage, is on course to return to action during pre-season.
