Chelsea thrash Cardiff in Youth Cup game

Ike Ugbo (pictured above) scored twice as Chelsea began their defence of the FA Youth Cup by thrashing Cardiff City 5-0.

Mason Mount, Tariq Uwakwe and Jacob Maddox also scored in a one-sided third-round tie at Aldershot.

Mount opened the scoring in the first half with an emphatic finish after being set up by the lively Dujon Sterling.

And three goals in the space of four second-half minutes put the young Blues in complete control.

Uwakwe netted from Josh Grant’s cross, Ugbo scored with a penalty following a handball, and Maddox fired in the fourth after beating two defenders.

It was soon five courtesy of a second goal for Ugbo, who was set up by Harvey St Clair’s pass.
