Chelsea consider new Modric bid

Chelsea are considering whether to table an improved bid for Tottenham playmaker Luka Modric.

The Blues have had offers of £22m and £27m for Modric rejected by Spurs, who insist the Croatia international is not for sale.

“It’s something we’ll look at in the week and take it from there,” Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay told Sky Sports News.

Modric, 25, is reported to have handed in a transfer request at White Hart Lane and believes he had an agreement with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy that he could leave this summer.

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas, whose team have been touring Asia, is keen to add Modric to his squad before the start of the new Premier League season.

“We really need to sit down with Andre and talk this through,” Gourlay added.

“Even though we’ve been travelling, you can still be active in the marketplace. The communication is always there with our guys back in London.”
