Chelsea boss Sarri fined after accepting FA charge

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has been fined £8,000 after he accepted a Football Association misconduct charge.

The charge related to Sarri’s sending-off at the end of Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Monday.

The FA said on Thursday that Sarri, 60, had admitted the charge and “accepted the standard penalty”.

Sarri was ordered from the dugout by referee Kevin Friend for the Blues boss’ reaction to a scuffle between players.

Chelsea assistant boss Gianfranco Zola later insisted that Sarri believed he was helping Friend restore order.

Zola said: “Maurizio was sent off while he was just trying to help Kevin. He went down there just to tell our players just to get into position and not to do anything (else).

“He was trying to help Kevin and Kevin misinterpreted it and sent him off. He is very unhappy about that. We are very unhappy about it.”
